For me it was 2 younger siblings with incurable disease. As a family, we never discussed this fact. Still unpacking this and I’m in my 60’s. Thank you for your helpful words.

I find it’s common for families to create these systems and rules, spoken and unspoken, for how to deal with pain, capacity, grief, longing - life. It’s not to cast blame, but to see clearly, how we tried, our limits, our adaptations, and how it all impacts how we experience the present. How we live, and a part of that, is how we work. I’m so grateful you shared with the community Colette, I know you gave voice to countless people and their experiences by doing so
